and enjoy the natural beauty of the night skies
Wigglesworth House and Cottages are Dark Sky Friendly, this means that we have attended a training workshop run by the AONB and local astronomer, are proactively reducing light pollution at our business, are flexible with guests wishing to star gaze, and can provide information about star gazing in the North Yorkshire area. It’s a great opportunity to star gaze, enjoying the natural beauty of the night skies and stars, unaffected by artificial lights of the cities and towns.
A Stargazers Paradise
The landscapes of the Forest are captivating by day but after the sun sets there’s a whole new world to discover in the dark skies over Bowland. Truly dark skies are becoming increasingly rare in our crowded little country. Light pollution is creeping into almost every corner of the UK, diluting the pitch blackness of night and obscuring the stars for much of the population.
The Forest of Bowland and The Yorkshire Dales are both a stargazers Paradise. More than half of Britain’s remaining dark skies are in National Parks or Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Forest of Bowland is among them.
The night skies over Bowland have recently been recognized as some of the darkest in England and granted official status as Dark Sky Discovery Sites.
Forest of Bowland
The Forest of Bowland occupies a great location in the North West of England. Its proximity to the M1 makes it easily accessible however is distant from sources of light pollution. The dark starry skies above the forest are a sight to behold.
With an enthusiastic team promoting stargazing events and experienced astronomers delivering them you’re guaranteed a fantastic experience. Go stargazing in the Forest of Bowland — you won’t regret it!
There are four Dark Sky Friendly Discovery Sites in Bowland and four in the Dales, two of which are 10 mins from us another 20 mins away, and more within an hour. Many of which hold regular events for all the family.
